I’m a firm believer in taking pictures to document progress. If you read my hair blog, then you know this already, but the same is true for your body. Because even though the scale might not change, the pictures might!
So here are my tips for taking accurate progress pictures and getting the most out of it.
Try to wear the same clothing. Also if the clothes are form fitting, all the better. It might be embarrassing at first, but as the pounds start to melt away so will the snugness.
Take shots from different angles. We all lose weight in different places. You may be losing back fat first, and wouldn’t you like to see that on “film”? Try taking pictures from the front, side, and back.
Enlist the help of a friend. If you don’t have a timer on your camera (or even if you do) it can be hard to get decent pictures. You want to make sure that the distance from you to the camera is the same for each shot and each update so that you won’t appear bigger or smaller than you really are.
Posture and stance. Stand up straight with your shoulders back. If your’e going to flex your arms or pose, do the same stance with all of your pictures.
And whatever you do, don’t suck your gut in. I think that’s the reflex we all have when a camera is around, but you want an accurate representation, especially in that “starting” photo.
Don’t go crazy. Take a picture every month or two, not every week. If you take them too often, you may become discouraged. At least a month will allow enough time for proper change (if you are sticking to your plan)
Try to avoid taking pictures during the worst times. During that “time of the month” and when constipated (sorry to be gross, I’m just keeping it real!!), you may be bloated and appear  bigger than you are. Plan your photo sessions to avoid that.
